About the REACH Lab

Our Mission

The REACH Lab is dedicated to designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative, technology-driven recreational therapy interventions. We aim to enhance cognitive health, psychosocial well-being, and independence for vulnerable populations—particularly older adults with cognitive impairments and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through evidence-based practice and active community engagement, we strive to advance health equity and ensure meaningful participation in daily life.

Our Vision

To serve as a premier hub for innovation at the intersection of recreational therapy and digital health. We envision a future where all individuals, regardless of age or ability, can thrive through equitable access to person-centered care and adaptive technologies.

Research Focus Area

VR Visuospatial Cognitive Training
Investigating VR and tablet-based interventions to improve visuospatial functioning, memory, and cognitive confidence for older adults with MCI and dementia.
Technology-enhanced Recreational Therapy
Designing and evaluating innovative recreational therapy models that integrate emerging digital health technologies with physical activities to maximize therapeutic outcomes.
Community-based & Equity-focused Research
Partnering with local senior centers and clinical facilities to bridge research and practice, promoting equitable access to person-centered care for vulnerable aging populations.
Adaptive Sport for Individuals with IDD
Exploring the psychosocial and physical benefits of adaptive physical activities, such as Taekwondo, to foster independence and well-being for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
